JOY DIVISION REWORKED (UK)
Performed by Heritage Orchestra & Scanner (UK) Visuals by Matt Watkins (UK)
'If Curtis hadn't died and his band had the opportunity to evolve, you can't help but wonder if this is the kind of thing they would be doing today' – The Independent
AUSTRALIAN PREMIERE, SYDNEY EXCLUSIVE
Paying homage to one of the most iconic bodies of work in British music history, Vivid LIVE presents visionary electronic composer Scanner and the 30-piece Heritage Orchestra in an audio-visual re-imagination of the sound and spirit of Joy Division. Instilled with poetic snapshots of Ian Curtis' haunting vocals, audiences will be guided through a sonic monument of new compositions accompanied by an animated landscape of artwork and projections created by visual artist Matt Watkins, reminiscent of the band's creative process. Celebrating Joy Division's key musical moments and groundbreaking evolution, Live_Transmission has redefined concert boundaries since proving a centrepiece of last year's prestigious Brighton Festival.
Combining classical elements, electronic instrumentation and a traditional rock framework, the Heritage Orchestra have dismantled orchestral stereotypes, garnering an uncompromising body of work with the likes of UNKLE, Aphex Twin, Amon Tobin, Antony & the Johnsons and The National's Dessner brothers. Now working alongside 'techno-data agitator' Scanner, both artists pay tribute to the band's continual resonance with fans old and new, resulting in a performance that suggests what the world's most adored 'art' band may have looked, sounded and felt like with the limitless possibilities of contemporary technology.
