Now entering its seventh year, Vivid LIVE is a two-week celebration of ambitious contemporary music at Sydney Opera House. The artistic centrepiece of a year-round music program that sees songwriters, producers and bands perform in the Concert Hall, Joan Sutherland Theatre and Studio, Vivid LIVE welcomes newly commissioned works, world premiere performances, and exclusive appearances from musical greats within Australia and around the world.
Originating with Brian Eno's Luminous festival in 2009, Vivid LIVE at Sydney Opera House has been curated by the late Lou Reed and Laurie Anderson, Modular Recordings founder Stephen Pavlovic and Fergus Linehan. Now entering its second year under Sydney Opera House's Head of Contemporary Music Ben Marshall, previous Vivid LIVE highlights include residencies from The Cure, Yeah Yeah Yeahs front-woman Karen O and Kraftwerk through to performances from Lauryn Hill, St. Vincent and Morrissey.
The only time of year one art form takes over the building with contemporary music filling every venue, rehearsal space and hallway of the House, Vivid LIVE has seen Australian favourites such as Daniel Johns and Empire of the Sun debut new albums live, while the likes of The Drones and influential dance label Future Classic celebrate their anniversaries from the stage.
Lighting the Sails of the Sydney Opera House as influential greats and new favourites perform inside, Vivid LIVE invites audiences to celebrate our icons, innovators and tomorrow's defining artists in contemporary music.
