MUSIC FOR DOGS
  • MUSIC FOR DOGS
The World Premiere of a unique concert experience on the Sydney Opera House Forecourt, for you… and your dog!

Laurie Anderson has composed a 20 minute work to create a shared experience for you and your dog.

The morning will be an inter-species social gathering on a scale never seen before in Australia. The site will open from 9am where breakfast can be purchased at our specially created doggie cafe, including freshly brewed coffee, egg & bacon rolls and doggie biscuits.

This is an event that you’ll be yapping about for years to come, an absolute must for any dog and their two legged friends!

Unfortunately there is no public transport for you and your dog, however the Sydney Opera House car park is dog friendly and offers you a $15 flat rate for this event!

The wet weather contingency venue will be under the Sydney Opera House vehicle concourse.

ALL DOGS MUST BE ON LEADS.

Thanks to Dr Geoff Golovsky of Vet HQ for assistance on the event.
COMMENTS

My dog asked me to say 'grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr woof grrr wag wag sniff scratch woof' which I think translates as: when are you going to come to London, England and do this? The LoveBox is on this sumer again cutting the widdling space right down - we'd be very happy if you could play for us'

Qualcosa di nobile e gentile per i cani e per i loro fortunati accompagnatori a Sydney, un peccato non esserci!

Woof Woof slurp woof arargh woof slobber slurp WOOF! (rough translation: 'Music for Dogs ROCKED! I was in the mosh pit and loved it. Please come back and do it again. But please Laurie bring Lulabelle next time! Thank you!)

Thanks Laurie, it was a terrific experience for pooches and persons alike. My Sheltie Willow is very responsive to all sounds, her ears didn't stop twitching throughout the performance. The sight of all those gorgeous dogs sitting calmly on the steps of the Sydney Opera House waiting for the start was a unique experience, it was performance art on it's own. Just wonderful!

what a great experience - thaks to the SOH and Laurie Anderson, this turned out to be a great community event and greatly appreciated .A big grin on everyones face - next time get the RBG to agree to let us all go back that way with dogs on lead to experience the Bienalle.

Did the dogs like the concert?

Steven

A free performance by Laurie Anderson would be thrilling enough - we were mildly nervous about bringing our bonkers failed guide dog Labrador but he LOVED it! And the chill-out track actually worked... Thank you!

I got there just as it ended - just wanted a glimpse as I knew my pound-rescued dog wouldn't cope with the crowds. Such a shame. But at least Captain got to see the Opera House.

This was a fabulous concern Laurie, thank you. Lots of licks, Lily and Phoebe (the King Charles Spaniels)

I've registered for this event and am looking forward to it. However I don't want to turn up and find it is cancelled due to rain. How would cancellation be publicised?

How will rain effect this event?

"The morning will be an inter-species social gathering on a scale never seen before in Australia. " How could that be possible? The size of the area and the access restrictions mean it could never compare to something like the Paws Walk!

Neil

Dogs are forbidden on all forms of NSW public transport unless they're guide dogs, and even then it's a stretch. Dogs are not allowed in the Sydney Opera House carpark, and the SOH by-laws actually forbid dogs from being anywhere on the Bennelong Point precinct surrounding the Opera House. You can go to the Rocks Markets and around Circular Quay with dogs, but as soon as you approach the Opera House, their security guards will come out to eject you.

My dog loves meat but will eat anything. His favourite subject is food and eating but his second is listening to high pitched music at the Opera House. He'll definately be there.

Sounds awesome! I think the dogs will love it! I think they should extend the interspecies love and compassion with some yummy vegan food instead of bacon and eggs though - go the funky pies (veg of course): )

I just got a human to call the Bienalle for me. I wanted to have a totally cultural day and see a bit of Art after the concert. Bienalle said No. Cockatoo Island allegedly not dog friendly for OH&S reasons. Grrrrrrr. Species discrimination, I say.

Margo

The Rocks Market has lots of food stall with yummy food and the pubs and cafes around the Rocks area have outdoor seating where I've seen dogs eat there with their human companions. I'm sure you won't have any problems with finding a canine friendly place to eat. Sydney is not as canine friendly as Europe but we're certainly getting there.

I really want to come but wonder if I will be allowed to take my two small dogs on public transport to get there? Has any arrangement been made with restaurants, pubs, cafes etc so that we can get something to eat later in the day if we have the dogs with us?
